β¦ Synopsis
Fe-B ultrafine amorphous alloys have been prepared by adding the solution of potassium borohydride into the solution of ferrous sulfate. The reaction process, monitored by the change in (\mathrm{pH}) value during the reaction, and the effect of addition rate of (\mathrm{KBH}{4}) solution, i.e., the reaction time, were investigated. It was found that the reaction system automatically maintains its (\mathrm{pH}) value at about 4.6 and the molar ratio of (\mathrm{KBH}{4}) to (\mathrm{FeSO}{4}) for the equivalent reaction is 1.9 . The boron content increased with the time used for adding (142 \mathrm{ml}) of (\mathrm{KBH}{4}) solution up to about (50 \mathrm{~min}) and then decreased. Generally, the particle size was smaller for high addition rate (e.g. (590 \AA) with (7 \mathrm{sec}) ) and large for low addition rate (e. g. (1370 \AA) with (96 \mathrm{~min}) ). The amorphous structure of the (\mathrm{Fe}-\mathrm{B}) alloys was also found to be different with different reaction time used. 1993 Academic Press, Inc.

## Abstract By changing the surfactant/water ratio, nanoparticles of the iron(II) spin crossover material, [Fe(NH~2~βtrz)~3~]Br~2~β 3βH~2~O (with NH~2~βtrz=4βaminoβ1,2,4βtriazole), have been synthesised from 1β ΞΌm down to 30β nm (see figure).
