The composition of the essential oil of Tanaceturn parthenium (L.) Schultz-Bip. (feverfew; Asteraceae) of various origins was investigated using G C and GC-MS. Camphor and chrysanthenyl acetate were the main constituents of the samples originating from England and The Netherlands. No infraspecific v

✦ Synopsis
The oils obtained by steam distillation of the ¯owers and leaves of Tanacetum polycephalum growing wild in Iran were investigated by a combination of GC and GC±MS. About 10 compounds in the ¯owers and 10 compounds in the leaves have been identi®ed. The main constituents of the oil of the ¯owers were camphor (59.1%), camphene (14.9%) and 1,8-cineole (10.1%), whereas the leaves oil comprised mainly camphor (53.5%), bornyl acetate (12.1%), camphene (10.9%), 1,8-cineol (7.8%) and borneol (6.1%). The essential oil from aerial parts of Tagetes mandonii Sch. Bip. (Asteraceae) was obtained by hydrodistillation. The oil content was 0.43% (v/w), on a dry weight basis. The oil composition was analysed by GC and GC±MS; 62 of the 71 compounds detected were identi®ed, accounting for 96.8% of the oil,
The essential oil of Nepetu crassifolia Boiss. & Buhse (Lamiaceae) was prepared by steam distillation and analysed by GC and GC-MS. Thirty-five substances out of the 52 detected were identified. The major constituents were found to be stereoisomers of nepetalactones (72.8%) and 1,8cineole (9%). &a,
The composition of the essential oil of Neperu nuda L. ssp. ulbipora (Boiss.) Gams (Lamiaceae) was analysed by means of capillary GC and GC-MS. The main components, accounting for 75.1% of the oil, were 4aa,7a,7aanepetalactone (37.5%) and 4aa,7~,7afhepetalactone (37.6%). The sesquiterpene fraction a
