Abstract

Spectrophotometric studies of solutions in cyclohexane of iodine with various thioanisoles have given results that are consistent with the formation of 1 : 1 charge transfer complexes.

The thermodynamic and spectral characteristics of these complexes have been investigated.

The equilibrium constants are in accordance with a Hammett type of relationship suggesting that complex formation depends on the electron availability of the sulphur atom in the compounds studied.

The interaction of pyrazolones as a donor with iodine as an acceptor has been studied using spectrophotometric and constant activity methods. The results indicate the formation of 1:1 molecular complex species of n-s\* type. The equilibrium constants of these complexes were determined at different t
