Escherichia coli nusB mutants fail to support the activity of a phage lambda gene product, pN, which regulates phage gene expression by influencing transcription termination. We report the identification of the nusB protein on SDS-polyacrylamide gels as a 14,500 dalton protein.

The lkyB gene of Escherichia coli K12 has been cloned from the Clarke and Carbon colony bank by selecting a ColEa plasmid conferring cholic acid resistance to lkyB mutants. The lkyB gene was localized on hybrid plasmid pJC778 by analysis of mutated plasmids generated by Tn5 insertions. Restriction a
From a gene bank of Klebsiella pneumoniae M5a1, a 1.7 kb gene fragment was isolated which was able to restore the Ntr+ phenotype and ammonium (methylammonium) transport, but not glutamate synthase in an Escherichia coli glt mutant (glutamate synthase deficiency). The fragment strongly hybridized wit
Amber and temperature-sensitive mutations have been isolated in the cys B gene of Escherichia coli. Their existence suggests that the gene codes for a protein.
