Abstract
Resonant Xβray emission spectroscopy (RXES) experiments were carried out in a single crystal of chalcopyrite CuFeS~2~, an antiferromagnetic semiconductor with a golden lustre, to unravel the overlapping dβd and chargeβtransfer transitions extending well above the absorption edge, which cannot be observed by conventional optical absorption experiments. The observed RXES spectra have been analyzed by means of clusterβmodel calculation with configuration interaction, which leads to the conclusion that CuFeS~2~ is a HaldaneβAnderson insulator with a negative value of charge transfer energy, Ξ = β3 eV. The analysis of substitution effects upon doping of YBa2Cu306+~Sy by sulphur is given on the basis of the investigation of S Kay.2 and S KI31 X-ray emission spectra. It is found that sulphur can enter the lattice of YBa2Cu307 and substitute oxygen atoms. With increasing sulphur concentration from y>
