With the addition of a sleeve balun, measurement results show little difference with and without the hand touching the measuring cable at both frequencies. This shows that there is litt

β¦ Synopsis
We report a detailed characterization of the properties of a chirped fiber Bragg grating with respect to the amount of applied chirp. The results demonstrate the reflection and dispersion dependencies associated with any linearly chirped grating. The dispersion of the device tested could be continuously tuned to give a dispersion up to -2010 ps/nm.

Different schemes of dispersion compensation and the cascadability of chirped fiber gratings as dispersion compensators are in¨estigated. It is found that the coupling apodization profiles ha¨e great influences on the cascadability of the fiber gratings. In addition, we found that the optimal fiber
Based on linear-system theory, a method to obtain the total group-delay characteristics of the cascaded chirped fiber Bragg grating (FBG) from the measured group delays of each grating is proposed. The method is then used to characterize cascaded chirped FBGs used as the dispersion compensators of a
## Abstract A new prototype of a compact and powerβefficient tunable dispersion compensator is demonstrated. To our acknowledge, this is the first time a tunable dispersion compensator using nonlinearly chirped fiber Bragg grating, coated with onβfiber uniform metal heater, has been realized. A rem
The optimum design for a 10-Gb / s NRZ chirped fiber grating dispersion-compensated system operating at 1.55 m over standard fiber is investigated. The study considers self-phase modulation, dispersion, modulator chirp, and amplifier noise. Transmission over 1700 km of fiber may be achieved by incor
## Abstract Analytical expressions for the output pulse broadening and eyeβdiagram power penalty of a chirped sampled Bragg grating (CSBG) dispersion compensator are derived. The result is applied to optimize the design of residue dispersion ratio in each channel and the total channel number of a f
