Incubation of an equal mixture of deacetoxycephalosporin C and [3'2H3]deacetoxycephalosporin C with partially purified deacetoxycephalosporin C I deacetylcephalosporin C synthase from Cephalosporium acremonium CO728 in a mixed competitive kinetic isotope effect experiment resulted in enzymic discrimination between labelled and unlabelled substrates.
