IONICS INVESTS IN ACAPULCO

Ionics Incorporated has dedicated a facility in Acapulco, Mexico to manufacture sodium hypochlorite for water disinfection.

The Acapulco facility, which will be owned and operated by Ionics, will use Ionics' proprietary Cloromatยฎ system to supply sodium hypochlorite for 10 years to Acapulco, through its distributor Kilo Sodio SA de CV. Delivery of the sodium hypochlorite, to be used in both drinking water and wastewater disinfection, will begin early next year.

Arthur L Goldstein, Ionics' chairman and CEO, said that the Acapulco facility demonstrated the continuing acceptance of sodium hypochlorite as a disinfectant of choice for water supply and public health protection. Goldstein said it also represented a vote of confidence in Ionics' Cloromat technology and the company's ability to provide sodium hypochlorite in both an economical and environmentally safe manner.
