✦ Synopsis
The title compound, [ZnCl 2 (C 16 H 20 N 4 )] n , was prepared from the reaction of N,N H -bis(4-pyridylmethyl)piperazine (bpmp) and ZnCl 2 . The asymmetric unit contains one Cl atom, half a Zn II ion and half a bmpb moiety. The Zn II ion, which lies on a twofold axis, has a distorted tetrahedral coordination geometry, with the central piperazine group in bpmp bridging ZnCl 2 units to form a one-dimensional polymeric chain. The piperazine connector in bpmp adopts a stable chair conformation.
