A new assay of catechol O-methyltransferase (EC 2.1.1.6) is described by determination of the W-and p-O-methylated products of 3.4.dihydroxybenzoic acid. The method involves DEAE-Sephadex A-25 chromatography and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography on a LiChrosorb 5 RP 18 column.

A non-radiometric method to measure the catechol-0-methyltransferase (COMT) activity in erythrocytes was modified to increase its sensitivity four-fold as well as its reproducibility and applicability. The method is based on the COhlT-mediated O-methyiation of 44naphtho [1,2-d] thiazol-2-yl) pyrocat
## Abstract Elevation of the total homocysteine (tHcy) concentration in plasma has been implicated in neurodegeneration in patients with stroke, dementia, Alzheimer disease, and Parkinson disease. Because the mechanisms controlling brain tHcy are unknown, the present study investigated its synthesi
## Abstract Soman (pinacolyl methylphosphonofluoridate) not only increases acetylcholine levels by inhibiting cholinesterases, it also alters the levels of some other neurotransmitters including norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin. Soman also causes an alteration in the activities of the enzyme
(+)-(R)- and (-)-(S)-salsolinol, dopamine-derived tetrahydroisoquinolines, were tested as substrates of pig brain soluble and membrane-bound catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) and as inhibitors of O-methylation of dopamine by soluble COMT in vitro. Methylation products were separated by high-perfor
