Catalytic steam gasification of Yallourn coal using sodium hydridotetracarbonyl ferrate was carried out in a semi-flow-type fixed-bed reactor at 873 and 973 K at atmospheric and high pressures. With Na[HFe(CO),] (Fe 1.67 wt%, Na 0.68 wt%), the steam gasification of the coal was more highly promoted

Nickel-catalysed steam gasification was examined for two Japanese and three German coals which had been pretreated with liquid ammonia. Reaction temperatures range from 923 to 1123 K. The greatest enhancement in reactivity by ammonia treatment and 1 wt % nickel loading was observed for Leopold coal.

This study attempts to predict the gasification behaviour of low rank coals from their properties, particularly from their content of catalytically active elements. A low rank coal (lignite) was deashed and then impregnated with catalytically active elements, and its gasification behaviour was compa
