By allowing dimethyl peroxide ( 10-4M) to decompose in the presence of nitric oxide (4.5 X lOW5M), nitrogen dioxide (6.5 X 10-5M) and carbon tetrafluoride (500 Torr), it has been shown that the ratio kzlkz, = 2.03 f 0.47: CH30 + NO -CH30NO (reaction 2) and CH30 + NO2 -CH30N02 (reaction 2'). โฆ Synopsis
Experimental evidence was obtained which showed that the chromium content of type 316 stainless steel can catalyse the oxidation of NO to NO2 due to a chromium oxide transition between 400 ยฐC and 600 ยฐC. Carbon monoxide was shown to inhibit this oxidation but only in concentrations above 0.1%. Explanations of possible anomalous analytical results have been suggested.

## Abstract Tobacco and wheat are known to emit nitrous oxide (N~2~O). Provided that N~2~O is a greenhouse gas about 300 times worse than carbon dioxide in its potential for global warming, it is an intriguing and important subject, whether this activity is commonly present in other plants. In this
