β¦ Synopsis
A simple and inexpensive casting method for producing 2024-A1 alloy reinforced with different percentages of Qt-AI20 3 particles is described. Metallographic examination has shown that the presence of A1203 particles has refined the structure of the matrix, whilst subsequent tests, in case of natural (T4) and artifical (T6) ageing at 170Β°C, have shown that the yield strength has increased in the composite, whereas the ultimate tensile strength and the ductility have decreased. It was found also that the addition of A120 3 particles to the matrix alloy improves the wear resistance and increases the coefficient of friction.
