Rotavirus is the most common etiological cause of acute viral gastroenteritis in infants and young children worldwide, yet its role in the adult population is less well understood. We have recently identified rotavirus as the causative agent of severe diarrhea in adults, specifically in two gastroen

Abstract
Although case reports have described detection of rotavirus (RV) in extraintestinal sites such as the liver, kidney, and central nervous system (CNS) of children with RV gastroenteritis, CNS localization in RV infection seems to be rare. RTβPCR and nucleotide sequencing detected a G1P[8] strain in the stool and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples of a patient with concurrent RVβassociated enteritis and CNS signs. Upon sequence analysis, the viruses detected in the CSF was identical to the virus detected in the stools. In the VP7β and VP4βbased phylogenetic dendograms the strain clustered within the G1βIc subβlineage and the P[8]βIII lineage. This study supports the hypothesis that RV infection was able to spread from the intestinal tract to the CNS, and likely played a role in the onset of neurological disease. J. Med. ## Abstract Hypersegmented neutrophils can occasionally be seen in the cereβbrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with acute pyogenic meningitis, and rarely as an artifact of cytocentrifugation. We report a case of florid neutrophil hypersegmentation in cytocentrifuged CSF specimens from a patient pres
## Abstract In a 12 month survey of infants and children with gastroenteritis admitted to Fairfield Hospital, Melbourne, rotavirus was found in approximately 42% of patients. This virus was detected more often during the winter months, particularly in children aged between 12 months and 3 years. De
An enzyme immunoassay (EIA) for detection of anti-enterovirus IgM antibodies was compared with complement fixation test in 43 patients with confirmed enterovirus meningitis by RT-PCR of cerebrospinal fluids (CSF). In 34% of patients with enterovirus meningitis, IgM antibodies could be found, whereas
