β¦ Synopsis
The semiconducting properties of passive films grown on tin in slightly alkaline solutions have been studied by means of capacitance measurements. The results confirm that d&rent types of films grow at low and high potentials. Thin films follow a Mott-Schottky behavior; both flat band potentials and donor concentrations have been estimated ; the location of the donor level has also been determined. The behavior of thick films is more complex, probably due to cracks in the film.

Anodic films were formed on smooth chemipolished Cd electrodes in alkaline electrolytes (cl-5 M KOH) at constant electrode potential by stepping rapidly from -0.7 to different potentials between 0.03 and 1.0 V referred to a hydrogen electrode in the same solution. The film formation was followed by
The effect of pH on the passivity of Sn has been investigated in buffered (phthalate-borate, and citrate phosphate buffer series), and in unbuffered phosphate solutions, using the cyclic voltammetric technique. Two anodic peaks; the first being more pronounced than the second, and one cathodic peak
The properties of the primary passivation film formed on a lithium electrode in a solution of LiA1C14 in thionyl chloride are described. The thickness of the film grows rapidly to 1 -1.5 nm during the first few hours after contact of the lithium with the electrolyte, and then becomes -5 nm after a c
The influence of Cl-ions on photoresponse of iron passive film in 0.5 M H,SO, solution has been studied. The increase of photocurrent may result from Cl-attack on the electrode surface.
