Voronoi diagrams have been used and made great impacts in various disciplines of computational science and engineering since Dr. Georgy Voronoi perceived in the early 20th century. The contribution of Voronoi diagram to CAD/CAM/CAE has also been significant as it is one of major computational tools for geometric modeling, geometric processing, pocket extraction and NC tool path generation, mesh generation, surface fitting from point clouds, and so on. Voronoi diagram, in its simplest form for ordinary points in 2-and/or 3-dimensions or its generalizations to various directions, often solves, otherwise difficult, a problem if not simply accelerates the computation. The importance of Voronoi diagram in CAD/CAM/CAE has also been reflected by the number of contributions in the CAD Journal in recent years, which use Voronoi diagrams and/or Delaunay triangulations in one way or another. Herewith we announce a special issue on Voronoi diagrams and their applications primarily in the areas CAD/CAM/CAE. With this special issue, we want to solicit papers which use Voronoi diagram as one of the fundamental computational tools for solving problems and wish to foresee the new horizon of applications using Voronoi diagrams in the CAD/CAM/CAE realm. This special issue of CAD Journal is dedicated to Dr. Georgy Voronoi as this year is the 100th memorial year for his decease in 1908. We believe that this special issue in CAD Journal will be an important effort for the recollection of the last century and speculation for the next century in the human history for Dr. Voronoi's contribution.
