Voronoi diagrams have been used and have made great impacts on various disciplines of computational science and engineering since Dr. Georgy Voronoi perceived them in the early 20th century. The contribution of the Voronoi diagram to CAD/CAM/CAE has also been significant in that the diagram is one of the main computational tools for geometric modeling, geometric processing, pocket extraction and NC tool path generation, mesh generation, surface fitting from point clouds, and so on. Voronoi diagram, in its simplest form for ordinary points in 2-and/or 3-dimensions or its generalizations to various directions, often solves, otherwise difficult, problems if not simply accelerates the computation. The importance of the Voronoi diagram in CAD/CAM/CAE has also been reflected in the number of its contributions to research presented in the CAD Journal in recent years, using Voronoi diagrams and/or Delaunay triangulations in various ways. Herewith we announce a special issue on Voronoi diagrams and their applications primarily in the areas of CAD/CAM/CAE. For this special issue, we are soliciting papers that use the Voronoi diagram as one of the fundamental computational tools for solving problems, and that foresee a new horizon of applications using the Voronoi diagrams in the CAD/CAM/CAE realm. This special issue of CAD Journal is dedicated to Dr. Georgy Voronoi in his 100th memorial year. We believe that this special issue in CAD Journal will be an important effort for the recollection of the last century and speculation for the next century in the human history using Dr. Voronoi's contribution.
