Embedded systems are becoming increasingly complex and capable, which poses many challenges in meeting performance, timing, energy/power, and memory size design constraints. A key to addressing these challenges is to synergistically integrate the software and hardware components. Compiler technology plays an important role in the interaction of the hardware and software. This special issue aims to bring together archival quality papers on compiler technology that covers a range of solutions to integrating hardware and software in addressing the complexity and design constraints of embedded systems. The special issue solicits papers that address the following topics:
