## Abstract In two experiments, varying amounts of K, and of K and Mg, were given to King Edward potato plants grown in soil in pots. Giving K decreased the Ca concentration in tuber dry matter but increased that of Mg more than giving Mg did; giving Mg did not increase the K concentration. The inc

✦ Synopsis
Samples of distributed water have been taken from 127 restaurants of the land forces selected in di!erent administrative districts in France to assess the contribution of water to recommended daily allowances (RDA) in calcium and magnesium. Mean levels of calcium and magnesium were found to be, respectively, 63.8$37.7 and 5.4$2.5 mg/l, with a signi"cant correlation between calcium and magnesium content (r"0.49, P(0.001). The softest waters are found in areas where soil is granitic or sandy. Daily consumption of 1 l of tap water provides on an average 7.1 and 1.3% of RD in calcium and magnesium.

The possible association between the risk of rectal cancer and the levels of calcium and magnesium in drinking water from municipal supplies was investigated in a matched casecontrol study in Taiwan. All eligible rectal-cancer deaths (986 cases) of Taiwan residents from 1990 through 1994 were compar
The use of 2\_[(4-phenylthioacetic acidJazoI-1,8-dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulphonic acid as an indicator for the titrimetric determination of both calcium and total calcium plus magnesium is reported. The variables affecting the colour change at the end-point were optimized. The method is free fro
## Abstract The extracellular concentrations of Ca^2+^ and Mg^2+^ are well known to play important roles in the function of the central nervous system. We examined the effects of extracellular Ca^2+^ and Mg^2+^ on ATP release and intercellular signaling in astrocytes. The extent of propagation of i
