✦ Synopsis
Crystals of the title compound, calcium dipotassium diphosphate, have been synthesized from a melt and structurally characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The CaK 2 P 2 O 7 structure can be described as a layer structure, with alternating [K 2 P 2 O 7 2À ] I and [Ca 2+ ] I layers parallel to the ab plane. Ca 2+ is coordinated by six O atoms in a distorted octahedron. K + is coordinated by nine O atoms in two different polyhedra.
