The luminescence of obelin is initiated by NaOCl in a reaction mixture containing no calcium. The addition of Mn2+ enhances the light emission >300-fold. Sodium azide and histidine, as singlet oxygen quenchers, inhibit NaOCI-activated obelin luminescence in the presence or absence of Mn". This sugge
