The unit-peptide, cadystin, of cadmium-binding peptides occurring in a fission yeast, S. pombe was determined to have structure H-Y-Glu-Cys-Y-Glu-Cys-Cys-y-GiuGl~aH; all Glu and two Cys being L-form, whereas one of the Cys's D-form.

Different ramets of a clonal plant exploiting a patchily metal-contaminated habitat may be exposed to different levels of toxic metals. This study investigated whether the exposure of older ("parent") ramets to Cd affected the levels of metal-binding peptides and essential elements in younger ("daug
Uptake of cadmium as 109CdCl2, 109Cd-cysteine, 109Cd-albumin and 109Cd-metallothionein was studied in isolated kidney cells from rat. Cd as 109CdCl2 and 109Cd-albumin was taken up at similar rates. The uptake of cadmium as 109Cd-cysteine was greater and that of 109Cd-metallothionein lower compared w
