Light work

Abacus Municipal are using a Tektronix 4052 graphics computing system to design lighting columns. Lighting schemes can now be worked out in hours rather than days. Customers can be presented with several alternatives so that cost comparisons can b~ made. Software was designed at Nottingham University by Dr Keith Case and Abacus claim to be the only lighting company in the country to have integrated lighting and column design on one computer. Design engineers build up the design using a question and answer system. Once the configuration is satisfactory, the computer presents illuminance values
