โฆ Synopsis
With the continuing t,rend toward optimization of engineering structures it can be expected that buckling, and in particular imperfection sensitive forms of buckling, will increasingly govern design. This study investigates the buckling and postbuckling behaviour of planar steel gabled frames under static loading.
The rise, span length, and column stiffness are parameterised and their effect on the gabled frame strrugth is analyzed. Kinematic and material nonlinearities are included.
It is shown that for certain combination of parameters the structure may exhibit a very severe imperfection sensitivity due to the simultaneous occurrence of the buckling load and the load that causes the collapse mechanism (compound failure).
