A broadband quarter-wa¨elength patch antenna with a U-slot is presented. Using a foam layer of thickness ; 0.07 as a 0 ( ) supported substrate, an impedance bandwidth of 27% SWR F 2 has been obtained. The far-field patterns are stable across the passband. ᮊ
