โฆ Synopsis
Abstract~Fhe thermal mobility of two paraffin waxes and lwo monoglyceridc esters, used m rigid and in impact modified PVC formulations as lubricants, has been studied by means of broad line NMR. A very useful method, based on the measurement of {he pcak-lo-pcak amplitude ol ll~c narrow line component as a function of temperature, has bccn used. 11 has been shown that the waxes are subject to thermal degradation during the milling procedure ~hcn used in rigid PV('. In the impact modified product, limited amounts of the waxes are dissolved in the polymer components being distributed among the polymeric phases in such a ~a\ that only a minor part is dissolved in the EVA phase; the rest R)rms a separate phase which cxhihits somewhat reduced thermal mobilitx as a result of interactions with the polymer components. The esters have reduced thermal mobility in the rigid PVC. The soft phase of the impact modilied PV(" is homogeneous and contains iL considerable amount of these lubricants which lower the glass transition temperature ol the phase.
