At least 2 species of the genus Crepidula (C. nummaria Gould and C. izivela Adarns) with flat, white shells are found on the coast of California. These are often designated as belonging to the subgenus Ianacus. Both of them are highly variable in size and shape in conformity with the substrates to which they are attached. Consequently some of these growth forms have been given specific, subspecific, or varietal names, rendering the synonymy of the group extremely confusing and the identification of some of the shells difficult (Smith,

## Abstract A new species of __Porphyra__ C.A.Agardh, **__Porphyra malvanensis__** Anilkumar & P.S.N.Rao, sp. nova, has been reported from the Malvan coast of Maharashtra, India. The present species is clearly distinguished from the other Indian species reported so far, by its small size, the devel
