Abstract
A new species of Porphyra C.A.Agardh, Porphyra malvanensis Anilkumar & P.S.N.Rao, sp. nova, has been reported from the Malvan coast of Maharashtra, India. The present species is clearly distinguished from the other Indian species reported so far, by its small size, the development pattern, arrangement and the number of carpospores and spermatia. The morphology of the present species is studied in detail together with the development of carpospores and spermatia. (Β© 2005 WILEYβVCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
