β¦ Synopsis
Irradiation of the l-alkyl-2,3-dihydro-l,b-bonzodiazepines la-d leads to -the corresponding indolee 2a-d. --This is a novel and preparatively useful phototr8nsform8tion. 2 An slkyl group is required in the l-position since & (R=*)3'4 and 11 (R=COCH3)4 did not undergo this chemistry. Likewise a pnitrophenyl group (&) prevented the reaction, and starting material was recovered in these cases.
