Several ringclcavcd analogues (9, 11 a, b) of bidbenzo-I 5aown-5)urethanes ( I a. b) were prepared to study the change of eoniplcxation by electroaniilytical methods. The syntheses of the title compounds (9, 1 I a. b) were accomplished in two ways: starting from -I-nitrovcratrolc (2) via intermediates 3-8 to give compound 9 and hy dkalinc hydrolytic cleavagc of 4-nitrobcnzocrown ctlicrs 110a. bl. then by subsequent steps yielding 1la.b. 'H and 13C-NMR spectral data of 11 a,b,c,d are summarized in Tables 2, 3.
