β¦ Synopsis
Basic Protein and Peptide Protocols offers an excellent collection of reproducible, step-by-step laboratory methods covering three major areas: (1) the quantitation and characterization of proteins, (2) the electrophoretic and blotting procedures used in protein isolation and characterization, and (3) the analysis of protein and peptide structure. THOUSANDS of labs are already using Basic Protein and Peptide Protocols-you should be too!

This book is written to update an earlier volume in the Methods in Molecular Biology series and is aimed at researchers who have become involved in the biochemical analyses of proteins and peptides. The text contains both newly developed protocols as well as revised established procedures using new technologies. The analytical methods included here reflect newer technologies such as capillary electrophoresis, immobilized pH gradients in isoelectric focusing, immunogold reagents and the BCA assay for proteins. Also included are newer applications that improve sensitivities, resolution, speed, or ease of use, including chemiluminescent systems and lectins. Each protocol provides an introduction, list of materials needed, step-by-step methods, notes, and references. This book is written as a bench top manual and guide for those new to protein biochemistry. A researcher not familiar with the procedure should be able to follow the directions without difficulty. The figures that are included clearly illustrate the types of results and sensitivities to be expected with the protocols. The references listed cover the development of the technique as published in the literature. The table of contents and index are adequate. This book will serve as an excellent guidebook for researchers who are trained as molecular biologists and have become interested in the analytical methods of biochemistry. Each chapter lists advantages and disadvantages including sensitivity and limitations. This is an excellent bench top edition.
