This is the latest edition of Baker & McKenzie's column on developments in EU law relating to IP, IT and telecommunications. This article summarises recent developments that are considered important for practitioners, students and academics in a wide range of information technology, e-commerce, telecommunications and intellectual property areas. A. General intellectual property

1. EC Regulation on customs action against counterfeit and pirated goods comes into force -On 1 July 2004 Council

Regulation 1383/2003/EC came into force and replaced Regulation 3295/94/EC bringing changes to the system that enables right-holders to enlist the assistance of national customs authorities to take action against goods that infringe their rights.

The Goods Infringing Intellectual Property Rights (Customs) Regulations 2004 (SI 2004(SI /1473) also took effect on 1 July 2004 in the UK.
