The compound Ba 8 (BN 2 ) 5 F was synthesized from a mixture of the binary components Ba 3 N 2 , BaF 2 , and BN in sealed steel ampoules at 1273 K. The structure was refined from single crystal data. Ba 8 (BN 2 ) 5 F crystallizes with the triclinic symmetry P1 (No. 2) with a ‫؍‬ 4.204(3) A s , b ‫؍‬ 20.92(2) A s , c ‫؍‬ 20.95(2) A s , ‫؍‬ 91.74(6)°, ‫؍‬ 90.03(6)°, ‫؍‬ 93.12(7)°, Z ‫؍‬ 4, and V ‫؍‬ 1839(2) A s 3 . The structure is built from isolated BN 3؊ 2 anions, barium cations, and [Ba 2 Ba 2/2 F] 5؉ units.
