ance by representatives from industry was not high. TTRA Europe has a long way to go to in this respect before it reflects the level of interest seen at American TTRA meetings. However, this aspect of attendance will not have been a great surprise to the organisers. A greater surprise and a bigger disappointment was that there were so many 'no-shows" even from those who had submitted papers. It is difficult to explain this but it is perhaps a feature that needs monitoring by other conference goers.

On the whole this was a good start to the European Chapter of TTRA. The main task lying ahead now is to increase membership. Givcn the distinctive role of TI'RA in bringing together industry and academia this will be a hard task in Europe as far as industry is concerned but it is one that is well worth the effort.
