✦ Synopsis
Condensation of 4.4-bis-(4-methox3~phenyl)-2-methyl-2-pentanol "~ith phenol, in the presence of hydrogen chloride, gives 1.3.3-trimethyl-I-(4-methoxyphenyl)-5-methox3'indan and tris-(4-methox3'phenq)-ethane instead of exgected 2.2.4-tris-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-methylpentane (trisphenol-11). tris-(4-Hydrox3phenyl)-ethane was obtained, together with bL~phenol:4, by condensation of phenol with acetylacetone~
