The Ca(2+)-ATPase of skeletal sarcoplasmic reticulum was purified and reconstituted in proteoliposomes containing phosphatidylcholine (PC). When reconstitution occurred in the presence of PC and the acidic phospholipids, phosphatidylserine (PS) or phosphatidylinositol phosphate (PIP), the Ca(2+)-upt
