The book consists of 18 chapters, written by leading practitioners in the field, each addressing a different aspect of therapeutic practice. All work is illustrated by the use of individual case material or examples of groundwork practice.

An overall theme is that the symbolic communication inherent in all the arts therapies may be a bridge towards personal change and ultimately the use of more effective verbal communication.
