N-Alkylation O 0268

Aqueous-Mediated N-Alkylation of Amines. -The alkylation of primary amines with benzyl, alkyl, and allyl bromides or chlorides in the presence of NaHCO 3 in an aqueous medium containing a surfactant gives access to secondary and tertiary amines.

The method avoids the use of transition-metal catalysts, expensive bases, solid supports and the formation of undesired quaternary ammonium salts which makes it a green chemical process (to be continued). -(SINGH, C. B.; KAVALA, V.; SAMAL, A. K.;
