β¦ Synopsis
Study of the photochemical coupling reaction between 2-iodo-5-nitrothiophene and indolyl derivatives indicated that the coupling reaction occurs on the C-2 position of indole to give products showing absorptions in the visible region. The photochemical reaction between iodoheterocyclic derivatives and heterocyclic allylic acetates gave the corresponding coupling products that were used as starting materials in the synthesis of polyhydroxylated compounds through reaction of the corresponding allylic alcohols with osmium tetroxide. The same reaction on 1,2-dithienylethylene or 1-(2-furyl)-2-(2-thienyl)ethylene derivatives failed. Both indolyl derivatives and polyhydroxylated compounds synthesized in this work proved to be singlet oxygen sensitizers in the photo-oxidation of trans-a,a'-dimethylstilbene,

## Abstract The reactions of singlet molecular oxygen (O~2~^1^Ξ~g~) with a series of organic compounds have been studied in the gas phase at 298Β°K. The concentration of singlet molecular oxygen was determined by titration with 2,5βdimethylfuran. The titration technique was checked using a photoioni
The photooxygenation reaction of several nitroaromatic compounds (1 -4) in aqueous solution is described, the mechanism of reaction is believed to involve photogenerated nitrobenzyl carbanions. The base-catalyzed oxygenation of organic compounds (eq 1) has been extensively employed in organic synth
A regioselective aminomethylation of 2,4-dihydroxybenzoyl compounds at the C(3) position was accomplished through a Mannich reaction of phenolic substrates with formaldehyde and secondary amines in methanol, whereas the reaction with primary amines included a subsequent cyclization step to yield the
