Numerous cembranold dlterpenes have been Isolated from a variety of marine and terrestrial sources.2 Several recent publlcatlons have reported the isolatlon of cembranoid CornpoUndS from VdtlOUS SpeCkS of moUusc. Colt. and CcX&Wker&4 have isolated a metabokte of sarcophytoxide, 7,S-deoxysarcophytoxide from the mollusc DvuLa ovum. Previous work in these Laboratorles has Led to the lsolatlon of the oxa-brldged cembranold dlterpene jeunian5 (II and more recently the novel hydroperoxlde pLanaxoo# (21. A Less polar fraction from e sulcatushas now been lnvestlgated and found t0 contain a further cembranord dlterpene whlCh has been ldentlfled as 3.11-dlacetox~l5,Igdehydrocembran+one (31 on the basis of two-dlmenslona1 nmr experrments.
