β¦ Synopsis
A previously described extension of classical nucleation theory is shown to agree quantitativeI> with experimental observations of isothermal martensite formation in an iron-nickel-manganese alloy. The martensite transformation in this allov is described in terms of the nucleation and rapid growth of thin plates, nucleation being the rate-limiting process.
