✦ Synopsis

  1. The preparation of 1-5 mm thick layers of adsorbent for preparative thin layer chromatography is described.

  2. The conditions of separation on Kieselgel G in relation to layer thickness, shape of spots and loading capacity have been examined.

  3. Optimum conditions have been found in layer thicknesses of 1-3 mm, whereby the loading capacity of Kieselgel G per substance lies at approximately 5-25 mglmm layer thickness for a 20 x 20 cm plate.

  4. The application for the preparative separation of dye mixtures by means of ascending chromatography and horizontal overflow chromatography is described.
