✦ Synopsis

An aqueous extract of Aegle marmelos leaves exhibited significant hypoglycaemic and antihyperglycaemic effects in normoglycaernic and streptozotocin-diabetic rats, respectively. It also significantly (p ~0.05) increased the plasma insulin levels of diabetic rats. The extract did not show any signs of toxicity and the LD, was greater than 10.0 glkg when given orally in rats.
