Abstract

Measurements of the ESR absorption in amorphous carbon films over the temperature range 77 to 300 K provide evidence of an antiferromagnetic transition at 100 K. This transition temperature is not affected by prior annealing of the films in vacuo at temperatures up to 550 K. The ESR line width is independent of temperature between 77 and 300 K. The relationship of these results to current theories on the structure of carbon films and related materials is discussed.
