✦ Synopsis
A Xtreptomyces strain, L23, isolated in our laboratories, produces a new antibiotic. This paper describes the characteristics of the strain, the method of fermentation and the preparation of the active substance in a crystalline form, and its chemical and biological properties.
Experimental
The production of the antibiot)ic substance was carried out on a reciprocal shaker (300 r.p.m., 2 em diameter), and in pilot-plant fermentors (stirring at 220 r.p.m., aeration: one litre per litre of broth) a t 28 "C. For the estimation of antibiotic the agar-diffusion method was used with Candida albicans, in a potato-extract glucose agar medium containing 3 % of potassium chlorida (HORVATH and KOCZKA 1964).
