โฆ Synopsis
Raman spectra have been obtained for sub-ML coverages of Cbo on cold-deposited Ag surfaces. The enhancement of these spectra persists upon annealing of the surfaces to z 300 K, unlike typical surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra. After annealing, the Cm spectra have an excitation profile different both from that of SERS and from that of resonant Raman scattering in bulk Cm. Thus, the enhancement of the Cm spectra on the annealed Ag surfaces is inconsistent with SERS but may be the result of a resonant Raman process caused by the C&Ag interaction.

A new method for the preparation of SERS active Cu electrode surfaces with high enhancement factors, which enable the observation of high quality spectra in the low-frequency region at different chloride concentrations, is proposed. Low-frequency modes at 160 and 145 cm-t are attributed to Cu-Cu vib
