✦ Synopsis

The anodic behaviour of platinum in sodium chloride solution bas been studied, It has been shown that below about l-6 V, chlorine evolution occurs on a clean platinum surface but above this potential, a surface oxide develops on the electrode and a rapid potential jump occurs. The kinetics involved in the oxidation of chloride ions and subsequent discharge of chlorine are influenced by ions other than Cl-. .New values for a, i,, and Q have been obtained, and the influence of aa1-and pH has been demonstrated.

Steady-state and transient galvanostatic studies have been made on the anodic dissolution of liquid gallium in pure and mixed solutions of hydrochloric acid and potassium chloride at 50Β°C. The results indicate that fast ion-transfer is followed by rate-determining electron-transfer (redox control),
