✦ Synopsis

The steady-state anodic dissolution of liquid gallium in pure and mixed solutions of sodium hydroxide and potassium chloride at 50Β°C has been studied by a slow galvanostatic technique. With increasing current density, the Tafel slope increases from 215 to 213 of 2.303 RTIF, and the hydroxyl-ion interaction exponent simultaneously decreases from 4 to 3 or lower. The chloride ion has no specific effect on the active dissolution reaction in alkaline solutions. Comparisons are made to data in acid chloride solutions, and a reaction scheme is suggested.

Steady-state and transient galvanostatic studies have been made on the anodic dissolution of liquid gallium in pure and mixed solutions of hydrochloric acid and potassium chloride at 50Β°C. The results indicate that fast ion-transfer is followed by rate-determining electron-transfer (redox control),

The dissolution rate of liquid gallium anodes in 1 N solutions of hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid and sodium hydroxide at 3O+'C has been measured radiochemically under galvanostatic conditions (O-12 mA/cm2). In the hydrochloric acid solution, the anodes consume very nearly 2 F/g-atom gallium di&ol

AImract--Galvanostatic experiments have been made on iron electrodes in hydrogen-poor and hydrogen-saturated alkaline solutions at 20Β°C. Emphasis was on the active behaviour of iron, but attention was also paid to its passivation. The mechanism of the anodic dissolution of active iron is found to b

Active anodic dissolution of chromium in acidic sulphate solutions was investigated by using the rotating ring-disc electrode (n-de). Chromous ions dissolved from the chromium disc could be collected on the gold ring electrode by oxidation to chromic state. The empirical collection number was estima

A silver electrode prepared by electrolytic deposition on a platinum wire was oxidized anodically in alkaline solution at constant cd. The impedance change and the potential change after opening the circuit in the course of anodic oxidation were observed and analysed. In the anodic oxidation, crysta
