✦ Synopsis

Total dierential cross sections are calculated using the IOSA and a new anisotropic 12-6 potential. Rainbows are damped solely by the welt depth anisotropy; diffraction oscillations are damped by the wellposition anisotropy. This separation should aid in the empirical dete rmination of anisotropic potentials.

The differential elastic ROSS sections (ebb < 20") for I\_?-Ar, Kr, Xc have been measured for 3 < E,m\_ < 9 eV and compared with those predicted from the electron &IS theory of Gardon and Kim for closed shcli systems. The experimental weU depths are typically deeper than predicted by theory. The lar
