spectra of cis-Na[Cr(IDA)a] and tra,?s-N'ci[Cr!XIIDA)a] xe compared with corresponding ab--. sorption and diffuse reflectance spectra. The observed Stokes shifts are unusual for Cr(lI1) complexes; they are esphined through low symmetry ligand field components which, according to the measured band splittings, give rise to LB parameter values of about 500 cm -' for the traorrs complex. For large asymmetric fields a cross-over of the first excited doublet states is obtained yielding a tetragonal (D4h) 'Eg as lowest emitting state with an electron confiuntion (egbzg) different from the ground state 4 Btg (egbg). The observed Stokes shifts follow from a shift of potential surface minima due to this orbital transition. In a similur way the temperature dependence of the cis spectrum is esplained by different population of two excited doublets,

## Abstract The geometrical structures, phosphorescence quantum yields, and electroluminescence (EL) efficiency of six iridium(III) complexes containing 2βphenylimidazo[1,2βa]pyridine ligand are investigated by density functional theory (DFT), which show a wide color tuning of photoluminescence fro
